The ITALTEMP disposable thermocouple is a disposable temperature sensor for measuring ferrous and non-ferrous metals in a liquid state, whether in induction furnaces, gas furnaces, oil furnaces, foundries, large steelworks or steel mills. It is best used in the 600ºC to 1700ºC (1112ºF to 3092ºF) range.
Its thermocouple is made up of two different metals: Platinum / Platinum 10% rhodium, being called Type "S" (according to ITS 90), the thermocouple formed by the platinum and platinum/rhodium alloy is protected in a high purity quartz tube. This thermocouple and quartz tube assembly is protected by a steel, aluminum or plastic cover, depending on its application or purpose. Its cardboard thermal protection tube is a thermal insulator for the system, from the radiation emitted by the molten metal, refractory wall or heated environment, to protect the system, cable, receptacle and lance.

They come in 2 types of connection (fitting), type "S" ITALTERM and type "S"-U.

As it is a disposable sensor, only its first reading is calibrated, within the limits of the 1982 ANSI-MC 96.1 standard, where its tolerance is 0.25% of the nominal range of use.
